Visitation will be held 4-8PM Monday, March 15 and 10-3PM Tuesday, March 16 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center 6063 Fenton Rd. Grand Blanc. Enrique was born January 2, 1969 in Flint. Rick, as he was called by almost everyone who knew him, loved boxing. His passion for this sport would go on to shape his life for over 40 years, first as a boxer who competed in the Michigan Golden Gloves, then as a trainer to his three sons Enrique, Joshua, and Adam. Under Rick's guidance, his sons, and others, went on to compete at a high amateur level, winning titles and belts through New Life Boxing, a fighting stable he built from the ground up. Rick impacted so many who came through his gym, yet as much as he loved boxing, he loved his family so much more. He worked as a land surveyor to provide for his family, and he beamed with pride when speaking of his children and their successes, both in the ring and in life. And that immense love grew even deeper with the arrival of his grandchildren, each of whom captured a piece of his heart from the day they were born. Left behind to treasure his memory are his sons, Enrique, Joshua, and Adam (Nicole) Adrian; their mother, Cynthia Cervantes; mother, Lydia Ortiz; sisters, Janie (Manuel) Barrera, Cynthia (Kurt) Geisenhaver, Beatrice Ortiz, and Veronica (Armando) Rodriguez; brothers, Abel Ortiz and Peter Adrian; grandchildren, Esaiah, Amelia, Samara, Jaxson, Carlito, Chanel, Acelyn, and Aizza; special friend, Carmen Rulka; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Rick was preceded in death by Enrique and Amelia Melendez; whom he lovingly referred to as mom and dad as they raised him with unconditional love and devotion during his formative years. brother, Rolando Gutierrez; sister, Ofilia Martinez; step-father, Abel Ortz. A special thank you to all Kindred Hospice staff. Tributes may be shared on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
