Joanne M. Barrett Bartlett, 73, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, on February 9, 1937, to Percy P. Barrett and Wilhemina M. Nellegar Barrett. Joanne was a graduate of The High School of Commerce in Springfield in 1954. She entered Syracuse University and became a member of Chi Omega Sorority and an honorary member of the Beta Chapter of Pi Lambda Theta Educational Society. Joanne was also a member of the Women's Student Government. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1958. She met and married her soul mate and love of her life while attending Syracuse University. She then went on to teach in several school districts in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Toledo. She retired from the Toledo Public School System in 1999. She also held other jobs as a secretary for a local life insurance company as well as sales of life insurance policies. But her greatest love was teaching. Joanne was an excellent teacher and loved by all her students. She was also involved as a Sunday School teacher, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. Joanne was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, whenever and wherever. She even assisted one of her former husbands' stepchildren, without any reservations, when in need. Joanne was a very gifted artist and enjoyed painting, ceramics, crafts and anything that utilized that very creative mind she was gifted with. She loved to write, almost every day. Joanne was also an avid reader, gardener and loved to cook and bake. She especially enjoyed her times with her grandchildren, loving every minute and doting like any grandmother would. Her greatest attributes were her loyalty, loving and kindness to everyone she met. Joanne's most firm belief was "The Golden Rule", Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, former husband and father of her 4 children, William R. Bartlett. Joanne is survived by her children, Linda Jo (John) Coss of Toledo; Loretta L. (Richard) Harris; of Toledo; Leanna D. (Larry) DeGroff of Toledo; and William C. (Paula) Bartlett of Sylvania.; her grandchildren, H. Justin Davis, of Columbus, OH and Garrett F. Coss of Toledo, Katherine E. Bartlett of Newark N.J. and Nicholas W. Bartlett of Sylvania. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. Friends may visit at the Urbanski Funeral Home 5055 Secor Road (North of Laskey) (419) 475-5055, Wednesday, December 8, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, December 9, from 10:00 a.m. until funeral services begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. The family requests those wishing may remember Joanne Bartlett through memorials to the Hospice of N.W. Ohio, American Cancer Society or The Alzheimer's Association . "It's time for us to part. Love, laugh and be happy. For this is just the start. Over the hill and around the bend life continues on and eternity is in sight....
