Ellen Ann Stellard, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on February 19, 2026. Born on July 13, 1943, in the close-knit community of Calumet, Michigan, Ellen's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the strength of family bonds.
Ellen's journey began as the cherished daughter of Wesley and Agnes Karjalainen, and she grew up with her brother Jim (Terry) Karjalainen. Ellen's education culminated with her graduation from Gerrish Higgins High School in 1961, a milestone that marked the beginning of an adulthood filled with accomplishments and loving relationships.
On June 4, 1977, Ellen married her soulmate, William Stellard, and their partnership was blessed with the arrival of their children: Lynn (Joseph) Jacobs, Marty (Dawn) Vibber, Annette (Special Friend Ardene Lingier). Ellen's role as a mother was one she embraced with her whole heart, and she was a constant presence in her children's lives, guiding them with a gentle hand and a listening ear. The loss of her son Steve Stellard, grandson Jason Vibber, and her parents preceded her in death, but the legacy of love they shared continues to live on through Ellen's example.
Ellen's professional life was marked by a 26-year tenure at the Genesee County Equalization Department, where she retired in 1996. Her colleagues will remember her as a thoughtful and dedicated worker, always willing to go the extra mile to ensure accuracy and fairness.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ellen was the family's anchor and historian, capturing countless memories as the family photographer. Her garden was a vibrant tapestry of colors, reflecting her love for the beauty of nature. Ellen's passion for travel took her to many places, but she found the greatest joy in the simple pleasure of watching her grandchildren's sporting events. She was the proud grandmother to Chelsea, Garret, Rayce, Chloe, Taren, Andy, Nick, Brandon, and great-grandmother to Addison, Tate, Azilyn, Brooklyn, Kasen, Eli, Izik, Mira, and Jaelyn. Each child held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Described by those who knew her as loving, generous, and thoughtful, Ellen's impact on the world was profound and far-reaching. She was a woman who gave of herself freely, never expecting anything in return. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
