Thomas James Langdon, aged 80, passed away on January 29, 2025 after an unexpected illness. He was surrounded by his loved ones. He was a loving father, son, brother, and friend. A memorial to celebrate Tom’s life will be held on Friday, February 7, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Swartz Funeral Home located at 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, MI. In addition to flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to Gift of Life Michigan as Tom was the recipient of a kidney transplant.
Born on August 11, 1944, in Flint, Michigan, to Gladys (Phillips) and Ernest Langdon, Tom developed a love for sports and cars. Tom worked at the family business, Langdon Shell Station & Garage in Largo, Florida until he joined the Air Force in 1963. In 1968, he returned to Flint, MI where he became a service technician at Superior Pontiac & Cadillac. Eventually, Tom went to work at the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford, MI where he spent over thirty years as a mechanic, working on the latest in car technology. Known for his quiet expertise, Tom was a respected employee until his retirement in 2008.
A man of few words but full of wry humor and a quick wit, Tom had a kind spirit and a deep voice to go with it. In his spare time, he enjoyed his bowling league on Fridays, cooking good food, perfecting ripe tomatoes in the garden, and spending time with friends and family. He was a passionate fan of Detroit sports and rarely missed a game, always cheering for his beloved Lions and Tigers.
In 1974, Tom married Kathey (Holder) Langdon (d. 2007). Tom and Kathey had one child, Jaime, whom they both loved dearly. Tom was in a long term relationship with Debbie Zelenko who passed away in 2023. Tom is survived by his daughter, Jaime Langdon (Thomas Morris) and his sister Shirley (Langdon) Shaschl. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Betty (Langdon) Bison.
