Jani, born on August 22, 1946, to Betty and Grover “Duke” Earley in Flint, Michigan. In 1964, she married Alfred Wagner Jr., and they shared their lives together for 37 years until his passing in February 2001. Together they raised their four daughters (Stephanie, Juliann, Juanita, and Joanne) in Flushing, Michigan. While she spent some years working out of the home, she’ll be remembered for being a wife, mom, sister, friend, homemaker, and cosmetologist.

Together, Jani and Al shared a passion for travel and were able to visit every single state in the United States. Her love of travel continued, and she branched out and started seeing the world. Some of her most cherished memories were made in Tanzania, Kenya, Zanzibar, Egypt, and a variety of cruises. In 2016, she adopted Ndotto, the elephant, regularly sharing his updates with family and friends. Her love of animals led her to volunteer at the Humane Society. She loved socializing, never knowing a stranger, she made friends on every trip she ever went on including her extensive hospital visits to what she referred to as the “Hurley Hotel.” She always voiced her opinion, so you knew where you stood with her. She wasn’t afraid to try new things and always lived life on her own terms. She enjoyed eating, cooking, and was always on the hunt for new recipes for the next family gathering. When no longer able to travel across the world, she lived life through television and movies. She kept impressive logs of every show and movie she watched to share with loved ones and provide her critique.

Jani was incredibly proud of all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren -she loved to spread the news. She was preceded in death by her husband Al Wagner Jr.; her parents Betty (Earley) Sanders and Grover “Duke” Earley; her stepdad, Lenis Sanders. She is survived by her brother Tommy (Nancy) Earley; her children: Stephanie Wilson, Juliann Taylor, Juanita (Matthew) Crandell, Joanne (Ken) Cogswell; grandchildren: Amanda (Todd) Dagneau; Alycia (Brandan) Socia-Pierce, Caleb Cogswell, Merissa (Corie) Doll, Matthew Wilson, and Rachel Taylor; and great-grandchildren: Eloisa, Myles, Elliot, soon-to-join-us Silas; great-aunt, Dorothy Hill; step-siblings, Jimi, Kathy, and Terry Lynn Sanders, Sue Jones; and her beloved cats Molly and Peanut. She will be missed greatly by all that loved her, knew her, and had the pleasure of meeting her.

Special thank you to Don Taylor for your care and compassion.

Also, special thanks to Megan, Dr. Katneni, Dr. Al-Sanouri, and Dr. Zuger for all their care and friendship.
