MONTIN, Bessie Susan – of Genesee Township, age 98, passed away on February 26, 2024. A Funeral Service will be held 2 PM Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Cremation will take place after the service. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Bessie was born in Montcalm Co., MI on December 4, 1925, daughter of the late Almond and Hazel (Helms) DeGroat. She married George J. Montin on November 21, 1943 and he preceded her in death on October 15, 1996. Bessie practiced as a L.P.N in Michigan and also as L.V.N in Texas. She and her husband ran a business in Alaska for many years. Bessie was one of the first homesteaders and one of the first women to vote when Alaska became a state. She enjoyed family card games, bingo and bowling.
Bessie is survived by her children, Darlene Powell, Janice Stephens, Shirley (Jim) Welch, Trudy (Gerald) Snider, Susan (Larry) Guith, Evonne Smith and Annette Cody; 18 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; many other loving family members and friends.
