MONROE, Nixon “Jim” - Of Grand Blanc, age 99, died Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Provision Living-Fenton.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10am Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Holy Family Church, 11804 S. Saginaw, Grand Blanc,

Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation 4-8pm Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed 6pm Monday evening at the funeral home. Visitation 9am Tuesday at church until the time of the Mass.
Contributions may be made to Medical Team Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Jim was born in Flushing, Michigan on July 27, 1925 the son of the late Fred and Margaret (Nixon) Monroe. In March of 1949, he married Jacqueline Stevens in Bowling Green, Ohio. Jim served in World War II serving on a Navy Destroyer in the South Pacific. He received his private pilot’s license later. He was a member of Holy Family Church since 1964. He liked horses and horse racing. He fished and hunted with family in the Eastern UP, near the St. Marys River for close to 65 years. Jim was co-owner of 23 Supermarket for 45 years and President of the Central Grocers Association.
Nixon and Jackie moved to Suttons Bay, where they lived in retirement for the next 25 years after the sale of 23 Supermarket.
Surviving are children, Wendall (Teri) Saxton, Marilyn (Jack) Cameron, Peggy (Rick) Hodgeson, Jim (Pam) Monroe, Steve (Cathy) Monroe and Julie (Pat) Rhoades;
15 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jackie in 2018 and his brother Evan Monroe.
