POBOCIK, Joseph Richard - age 89, of Swartz Creek, died Thursday July 10, 2014. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, July 14, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11804 S. Saginaw St. Grand Blanc. Fr. Gary Koenigsknecht celebrant. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery will follow. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek from 2-8 PM Sunday and at church Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass. A Scripture Service will be held at the funeral home 7:00PM Sunday followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary.

Joe was born December 30, 1924 in Swartz Creek, the son of Andrew and Pauline (Kleinedler) Pobocik. He married Dolores Ann Tahash on November 12, 1949 at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Flint. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima in 1945. Joe retired in 1980 from GM Metal Fab after 39 years of service. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was a member of St. Mary Swartz Creek Knights of Columbus for 66 years. Joseph was a life member of the Swartz Creek VFW Post 3720. He served on the Swartz Creek School Board and served as President for one year. He was also on the Swartz Creek Senior Center Board of Directors. Joe and Dolores enjoyed traveling, they visited all 50 states and over 35 countries.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Dolores; eight children, Katharine Mason of Austin, TX, Rebecca Pobocik (Gary Ashford) of Toledo, OH, Mark Pobocik of Midland, Matthew (Christine) Pobocik of Lennon, Paul (Tami) Pobocik of Plattsburgh, NY, Chris (Linda) Pobocik of Three Oaks, Rita (Martin) Pobocik Bailey of Ann Arbor, Andrew Pobocik of Flint; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
