HOCHHALTER, Elfrieda (Jagst) – of Davison, age 86, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2022 at The Cottage of Davison. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM, Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 706 W. Flint St., Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Todd Frusti officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association, in Elfrieda’s memory.
Elfrieda was born in Russ, Lithuania on April 19, 1936, daughter of the late Ernst and Marie (Saltz) Jagst. She married Walter Hochhalter on July 26, 1958, he preceded her in death on August 27, 1999. At age 12, Elfrieda fled her home country during WWII and came to the United States. Her family was sponsored through a Lutheran Church and were brought to live on a farm in Ossineke, MI. She graduated with honors from Alpena High School. After graduation, she moved to Chicago with her sister. This is where Elfrieda would meet her husband, Walter, at a German party. Elfrieda had a passion for baking, an art that was passed on through her mother. Her legacy and story continue through her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Elfrieda is survived by her loving children, Ralph (Leslie) Hochhalter, Gloria (Tom) Carter and Grace (Tim) Bratton; 7 grandchildren, Brandon (Becca), Erika (Steve), Jessica (Jason), Daniel (Caitlyn), Samantha, Sarah (fiancé Raymond), and Lilliana; 6 great grandchildren, Rainy, Dale, Luke, Scarlett, Adelyn and Oliver; brother, Werner (Miriam) Jagst and Helmut Jagst; special friend, Lila Aspy; and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Walter; sister, Erna Ferguson; brother-in-law, Erich Hochhalter; and other in-laws.
