Doreen was born in Flint, MI on November 3, 1935, daughter of the late Paul V. and Norene O. (Cove) Franzen and her step-mother, Evelyn (Schank) Franzen. In the halls of Mt. Morris High School, Doreen's spirit soared. The echoes of her laughter resonated on the basketball court. Her charisma and grace were further illuminated as she earned the titles of Homecoming Queen and Valedictorian, leaving an indelible mark on the Class of 1954. On June 30, 1956, Doreen embarked on a beautiful journey of love and companionship, marrying Kenneth Ailing. Doreen's career with Davison Community Schools unfolded as a chapter filled with delicious aromas and the camaraderie of the kitchen. Her role as a cook was not just a profession; it was a source of pride and joy. The community recognized her dedication by selecting her as a Homecoming Grand Marshal, a testament to the impact she had on those around her.

Beyond the kitchen, Doreen found solace and friendship in her quilting circle at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davison. In the embrace of her church community, Doreen discovered not only a place of worship but a haven of shared values and enduring friendships.

Sports held a special place in Doreen's heart, especially her unwavering love for Detroit's teams. While she proudly supported the "Blue Team," her allegiance didn't waver when the "Green Team" took the field.

Doreen's journey was a symphony of love, laughter, and shared moments. As we remember her, let us celebrate the vivacity she brought to each role – daughter, student, wife, cook, and friend. In the tapestry of memories, Doreen's legacy lives on, a testament to a life well-lived and a heart that touched countless others with kindness and warmth.

Doreen is survived by her loving children, Evelyn Ailing, Belinda (Ailing) Batrow and Arthur (Sandra) Ailing; grandchildren, Jessica (Michael) Smith, Tyler (Apryl) Ailing, Emily Batrow and Andrea Ailing; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Ronan, Clara, Henry and Adeline; and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ailing; and her brothers, Covert and Dwayne Franzen.
