Walsie Beatrice VanDyke, age 92, of Flint, Michigan, passed away early Sunday morning, September 20, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation in Michigan will take place from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 23, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek.
Visitation in Virginia will take place from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 25, at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, 1401 Second Street, Richlands, VA 24641. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery in Keen Mountain, Virginia, next to her beloved husband.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.
Walsie was born on July 3, 1934, in Buchanan County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Luther and Eva (Horn) Cantrell. She worked for K-Mart for 35 years before her retirement. Walsie met Emery J. VanDyke, and after dating and falling in love, they were united in marriage on June 30, 1952. Sadly, he preceded her in death on October 15, 2007. Walsie's greatest joy was her family. She loved cooking for them and caring for those she loved. She also enjoyed gardening and crocheting in her free time.
She is survived by her children, Donald VanDyke and wife, Betty, of Swartz Creek, MI; Jimmy VanDyke and wife, Sabrina, of Burton, MI; Connie VanDyke of Flint, MI; and Norma Kitter and husband, Dale of Leesburg, FL; daughter-in-law, Marcie VanDyke of Clio, MI; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Geraldine Dye and Pauline Davidson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Walsie was preceded in death by her son, Dallis VanDyke; sister, Juanita Hale; and brothers, Carl, Therman, and Walter Cantrell.
