Baker, Helene of Flint, age 83, died Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Turning Brook Assisted Living in Alpena, Michigan.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 12th at 1 PM at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 W. Hill Rd., Flint, MI. Pastor Wally Rose officiating with Pastor Burkholder of North Baptist speaking. Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
Visitation 1-5 PM at Swartz Funeral Home on Friday, March 11th.
Helene was born in Heilbronn, Germany on January 22, 1939. The daughter of Emma and Karl Schmieder. After working as a bookkeeper for the Mayor of Heilbronn in Germany, Helene married Curtis Baker on January 11, 1958 in Stuttgart, Germany while Curtis was stationed in the army there. They came to the states, became parents to two daughters and became Christians early in their marriage. Helene and Curtis faithfully served in their local church and was a godly influence in the lives of all who knew them. They were happily married for 60 years.
Helene became a naturalized American citizen on November 3, 1994. Helene was a loving wife, Mom and Mamaw who loved to cook, garden, sew and bake beautiful German tortes.
Helene loved her Savior and family dearly. Nothing brought her more joy than her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
“Her children arise up and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Proverbs 31:28
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Charter Senior Living in Davison Michigan and all the outstanding staff and hospice care nurses at Turning Brook Assisted Living in Alpena Michigan. We will be forever grateful for your loving care toward our Mom/Mamaw during her last days/hours on this earth.
Helene was preceded in death by her parents; Karl and Emma Schmieder, husband; Curtis Baker, grandson; Ryan Alfaro, great granddaughter; Siouxsie Alfaro, brother; Gerhard Schmieder, sister in law; Luzie Schmieder and nephew; Peter Schmieder.
Surviving are daughters, Cindy (Dave) Stevens, Christine (Mike) Morris, grandchildren, Christopher (Sarah) Stevens, Michael Stevens, Pete (Katie) Alfaro, Curtis (Amy) Alfaro, Anna Alfaro and ten beautiful great grandchildren.
