YOUNG, Billy R. – of Birch Run, formerly of Mt. Morris and Flint, age 86, passed peacefully, Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Birch Run Fields Assisted Living. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, from 12PM until 8PM and on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Burial to follow in Mt. Morris City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Diabetes Association.
Bill was born September 25, 1937, in Hickman, Kentucky, to the late John William “J.W.” and Lucy Laverne (Yates) Young. He graduated from Mt. Morris Central High School, class of 1955. Bill married Jean M. Palencak on September 30, 1961. He and Jean moved to Mt. Morris where they raised their three children. Jean preceded Bill in death on June 24, 2022. Bill was the proud owner of Totten Tire Center, Northwest in Shields, MI. He was a trusted figure in the community. In addition to his business, Bill served in many capacities with the Mt. Morris Jaycees, including President. Following retirement, Bill and Jean spent the winters at their home in Lakeland, Florida, where Bill became a daily golfer. Winning many tournaments with his partners and achieving the rare “hole-in-one” three times. A life-long University of Michigan Football fan, Bill took a part-time job in retirement as an usher for the Saturday home games at the big house. He described it as the best job he ever had (second to being a dad), being paid to watch the team he loved in person.
Surviving are: Children: Annette (Barry) Arkush, of Portage, Rodney Young, of Miami Beach, FL, and Peggy Bigelow, of Clio; Grandchildren: Andrew Reese, Jaime (Nick) Scott, Brooklynn Lowell, and step grandson Nate Arkush; Great grandson, Warren Scott; Grand dog, Millie.
