SOPER, Gary Keith – of Fostoria, MI, age 83, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 PM Thursday, February 25, 2021 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Entombment in St. John Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 11 AM-12 PM Thursday, February 25, 2021 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 500, Chicago, Illinois 60611 in Gary’s memory.
Gary was born in Flint, MI on January 4, 1938, son of the late Keith and Dorothy (Forth) Soper. Gary married the love of his life, Diane Osmon, on October 3, 1959, in Flint, MI. He proudly served his country in the U.S. National Guard. Gary worked as a Claims Director for Ryder until he retired at the age of 55. After he retired, Gary found a great passion working as Santa Claus for Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland for 21 years during the holiday season. Gary enjoyed spreading Christmas cheer to the thousands of visitors who came to see Santa Claus each year. Outside of his working life, Gary enjoyed spending time at his cottage during the summer season, collecting antiques and researching his family ancestry. He was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Gary is survived by his wife of 61 years, Diane Soper; son, Eric (Teresa) Soper of Mayville, MI; daughter, Dawn (Michael) Currie of Millington, MI; 2 grandsons, Justin Soper of Mayville, MI and Kyle (Samantha) Currie of Saginaw, MI; nephew, Matthew Soper of Davison, MI; many other loving family members and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Dorothy Soper; 2 brothers, Kurt Soper and James Soper and nephew, Michael Soper.
