Ms Vanessa Harris, 61, of Flint, passed away Thursday, July 6th, 2023 at Hurley Medical Center. There will be a repast held at the Golden Corral on Miller Rd for all family and friends that would like to attend. We will gather on Saturday, July 15th from 4pm-8pm. The family is following her will for no memorial or funeral service.
Growing up in Montrose, MI, Vanessa attended Hill McCloy HS where she quickly gained the Nickname "News" for her domination during basketball season. She also enjoyed and excelled in track and field. She was a proud graduate of the class of 1980.
Vanessa's love for God was seen by many. Whether she was watching sermons on tv, reading the word, or just sending people random bible scriptures, she had undying Faith. No matter the circumstance, she was all smiles, and her reply was always "I'm good". Vanessa was smart holding plaques of degrees that lined her hallway walls, she was encouraging and would sit and talk with you for hours, helping and being a voice of reason. To know her was to love her.
She was able to spend a month before her transition living with her son, daughter in law, and grand daughter being loved and cherished making memories we now can look back on today. She enjoyed sitting outside, reading, eating, but most of all she enjoyed just kicking back with the family watching a movie. Vanessa was truly loved by many. In her final hours she wanted to be surrounded by family and friends. You would find her laughing at jokes dispite the circumstances. We couldn't of imagined loosing her this soon, but she is now at peace.
Ms Vanessa Harris leaves to cherish her memory: Two sons, Darrell "Travar" (Dayna) McGhee Sr. Of Flint, MI and David Seltzer Jr. of Flint, MI ; Three grandchildren, Darrell "Dj" McGhee Jr , Salera Collins, and expecting birth of Izra McGhee ; three brothers, Willard "Will" (Ramona) Harris Jr. of North Las Vegas, NV, Adrian (Roslyn) Harris of Detroit, MI, and Albert (Shiela) Harris of Flint, MI ; Three sisters, Patricia Boyd of Mt. Morris, MI, Pallastean (Walt) Harris of Clio, MI, and Lisa (Rodney) Hughes of Tacoma, WA. She leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, best-friend Tracey Murphy, and the beloved residents and staff at Lockwood of Burton.
Ms Vanessa Harris was proceeded in death by her mother Geneva Harris, and father Willard Harris. |
