SWENSON, Carl Gunnar - Age 84, of Swartz Creek, formerly of Flushing, went home to be with his Lord on May 21, 2021. Funeral services will be held 12 PM Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held 4-8PM Tuesday and from 11 AM until the time of service. Those desiring may make contributions to the Alzheimer's Association. Carl was born October 19, 1936 in Flint, the son of the late John and Ida (Horquist) Swenson. On June 18, 1966 he married Donna (Ferris) Swenson in Flint. Carl was a graduate of Kearlsey High School and University of Michigan. He retired from General Motors Buick Division with 25 years of service. He also served in the National Guard as a sharp shooter and medic. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and served on the church board for many years. He coached the girls basketball team and loved playing basketball with many of the different youth groups over the years. He took pride in his Swedish heritage and was proud to become a member of the local Vasa club. Carl loved Michigan sports, he was a true Red Wings fan and also enjoyed watching many Tigers games and U of M Football. He loved to spend the summers with family and friends at Lobdell Lake, especially taking boat rides "up the river". Measuring in at 6'4, he was known as the "gentle giant" in the neighborhood where he raised his children. He was known for his kind and caring nature and truly loved everyone he met. Many family and friends lovingly referred to him as "Uncle Carl". Surviving are his wife, Donna; children, Ann-Mari (Brad) Doty and John Swenson; two children that he loved like his own, Eric and Mark Skoog; brother, Ken (Barbara) Swenson; sister, Ingrid Swenson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, his dog, Brody and so many special lifetime friends that were family as well.
