DIXON, Joe Harlan, Sr. – of Flint, MI, age 85, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021 after a lengthy illness at his home, loved and surrounded by his family and extended family. Cremation has taken place. A Private Memorial Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in Joe’s memory.
Joe was born in Calhoun, GA on January 17, 1936, son of the late Elzie and Venus (Davenport) Dixon. He was raised in Calhoun, GA and attended Red Bud High School. Joe moved to Flint, MI, where he met and married Arlene Battice on September 24, 1955. They spent the next 65 years together, raising their family and building a life together. Joe retired from General Motors in 1995 after 35 years of service. He continued working in his own business, Dixon Window Cleaning Company for many years until he no longer could.
Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Arlene Dixon; 3 sons, Joe (Sandi) Dixon Jr., Jim “Louie” (Denise) Dixon and Brian (Jodie) Dixon; daughter, Penny (David) Dixon; 18 grandchildren, Tia, Michael, Jesse, Brandon, Brittney, Brendan, Sarah, Taylor, Nicole, Tiffany, Hally, Dustin, Savannah, Ariel, Joe, Jimmy, Tyler and Jordan; 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ella Jean Dixon; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elzie and Venus Dixon; 2 brothers, James (Pat) Dixon and Eugene Dixon; sister, Helen (Ralph) Miller and his son, Jason Dixon.
