SCHAEFFER, Rosa Mary (Sloan) – of Davison, MI, age 90, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022. Rosa was born in Flint, MI on August 18, 1932, daughter of the late Frank and Jennie (Darling) Sloan. She was a graduate of Grand Blanc High School Class of 1950. Rosa married Walter Schaeffer on June 22, 1957 in Davison, MI. She worked at AC Spark Plug until 1958 and enjoyed singing and dancing in their musical productions. She also worked as a cook in Davison schools, serving up kindness to all, particularly those who were hurting. Rosa was a member and volunteer of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir for 32 years. She also volunteered for the Red Cross. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Rosa loved trips to the casino, playing cards, sewing, playing the piano and attending all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s numerous extracurricular activities. Many will remember the extraordinary Christmas candy and biscotti she made with love each year and shared generously.
Rosa is survived by her husband, Walter Schaeffer; 3 children, Denise (Mark) Nester, David (Kristine) Schaeffer and Jennie (Rob) Yelvington; 8 grandchildren, Analise (John) Atteo, Gabriel Nester, James Schaeffer, Kevin (Laura) Schaeffer, Forrest (Jen) Schaeffer, Harrison Schaeffer, Aaron Petrovich and Elena Petrovich; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Genevieve Howe; Brother, Jim Sloan; many other loving family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Jennie Sloan; 3 siblings, Betty Shumaker, Joyce Dow and Joann Richardson; granddaughter, Natalia Rosa Nester.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 PM Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI. Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Interment immediately following the Mass in St. John Catholic Cemetery. A luncheon will follow. The family will receive visitors Monday, November 28, 2022 from 4-7 PM (Rosary prayed at 6 PM) at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI and Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 11 AM-12 PM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rosa’s memory to the St. John Church Choir or the American Red Cross.
