BROOKINS, Herbert C. – of Clio, age 79, died on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at his home. Honoring his wishes, cremation will be taking place. A private family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate Herbert’s life. To honor his memory, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Flint or The Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
Herbert was born on November 11, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Herbert and Frances (Johns) Brookins. He resided in Clio all his life and graduated from Clio High School. Herbert married Linda Townsend on February 3, 1979, and they shared 43 years together before Linda’s passing on January 25, 2023. He was an honorable U.S. Army Veteran. Herbert enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing, as well as trips up north to their property in Au Gres, and he also liked working on cars and golf carts. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are: Children: Amanda (Mike) Sherwood, Clint Brookins, and Chris (Bill) Kerrison; Grandsons: Michael Sherwood and Cameron Sherwood; Siblings: Chip, Ernie, Kathie, and Jackie (Bill); Niece, Courtney Townsend; Nephew, Nick (Al) Townsend; Great nephew, Beau Townsend; Many other loving family members and dear friends.
