Vilma Esther Nieto of Burton, Michigan passed away peacefully May 4, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family after a very short but courageous battle with cancer. Vilma was born on January 5, 1951 in Barranquilla, Colombia to Drs. Carlin Nieto Carroll and Myriam Contreras de Nieto. Vilma lived and studied in Caracas, Venezuela earning a Jurisprudence degree and practiced as an attorney for many years. She relocated to the United States in 1995 living in Texas and Michigan and became an US citizen in 2017. She became an interpreter, parent educator, child advocate and teacher working for Flint Community Schools, Catholic Charities, CASA Agency and GISD. She had a very giving spirit and a special place in her heart for children with special needs including her beloved nephew Franklin. They shared a very special bond and shared many happy moments together. She was a member of El Shaddai Assembly of God in Flint Township for many years and was a great example of a faithful Christian woman. Vilma helped numerous families and individuals throughout the years. She was loved by everyone that met her. Vilma was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Anastacio Nieto Contreras and Carlos Arturo Nieto Contreras, left to cherish her memory are sisters Maria Clara Cox (Frank) of Swartz Creek, Michigan, Ana María Nieto of Channelview, TX and Gabriela Nieto of Houston, TX; nieces and nephews, Rafael Nieto, Juan Nieto (deceased), Roxanna Nieto, Sarah Cox-Vasquez (Ricardo), Franklin Cox, Diego Guerra, Alberto Galicia, Esther Maria Galicia (grandnieces Claudia, Maria Gabriela, Carla Daniela), Simon Galicia (Courtney and grandnephew Payton), Silvia Galicia and Elias Galicia. Cremation has taken place and no service will be held.
Vilma Esther Nieto Contreras de Burton, Michigan, USA falleció en su hogar en paz el 4 de Mayo, 2022 rodeada de sus seres queridos después de una batalla corta pero con mucho valor en contra del cancer. Vilma nació el 5 de Enero de 1951 en Barranquilla, Colombia hija de los Drs. Carlin Nieto Carroll y Myriam Contreras de Nieto. Vilma se graduó de la Universidad Santa Maria en Caracas y ejerció como abogado en Venezuela antes de emigrar a los Estados Unidos en 1995 donde residió en Texas y Michigan. Vilma recibió la ciudadania en EEUU en el año 2017. Ella ejerció de interprete, en la education de padres, abogador por los niños y maestra en los Distritos Escolars de Flint y del Condado de Genesee, Caridades Católicas y Agencia CASA. Vilma fue una persona muy generosa y tenia un gran cariño por los jóvenes con necesidades especiales especialmente su sobrino Franklin. Ellos tenían una relación muy especial y compartieron una infinidad de momentos felices. Ella fue miembro de la Iglesia El Shaddai por muchos años, demostrando las cualidades de una virtuosa mujer cristiana. Vilma ayudó a un gran número de familias e individuos a través de los años. Ella fue grandemente apreciada por todos los que la conocieron. Vilma fue precedida en la muerte por sus padres y hermanos Anastacio Nieto Contreras y Carlos Arturo Nieto Contreras. La sobreviven para mantener su memoria viva sus hermanas María Clara Nieto de Cox (Frank), Ana María Nieto Contreras y Gabriela Nieto Contreras; sobrinos Rafael Nieto, Juan Nieto (q.e.p.d.), Roxanna Nieto, Sarah Cox-Vasquez (Ricardo), Franklin Cox, Diego Guerra, Alberto Galicia, Esther Maria Galicia (sobrinas nietas Claudia, Maria Gabriela y Carla Daniela), Simon Galicia (Courtney y sobrino nieto Payton), Silvia Galicia and Elias Galicia. Ya se realizó la incineración de sus restos y no habrá servicio conmemorativo.
