Raymond was born in Kansas City, Kansas on December 24, 1929 to John and Alma (Erker) Stalzer. He graduated from De La Salle Military Academy and continued his education at Donnelly College. He married Helen Lawrence on August 26, 1950 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Kansas City Kansas and was married for 70 years. Raymond worked for General Motors Services Parts Division for 40 years as a Senior Project Engineer, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church since 1963 where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a founding member of the St. Joseph Guild. In 2006, he was named "Citizen of the Year" by the Knights of Columbus Council 8489 for outstanding service to the community.
Raymond was a devoted and loving husband and father who enjoyed nothing more than to be surrounded by his family, especially during the holidays. He had a unique, unmistakable, hardy, trademark laugh (aka "The Stalz Laugh") and everyone that heard it immediately knew Ray was in the room. Raymond loved sports and in his younger days, was a standout softball pitcher labeled by the Kansas City Kansan newspaper as "Stalzer the Stalwart" after he pitched a no-hitter. He was a loyal fan of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. God blessed Ray with a long and full life and was loved by everyone he met and worshiped by his wife and family.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Helen Stalzer; son, Raymond E. (Margaret) Stalzer, Paul (Paula) Stalzer, and John (Ellie) Stalzer; daughters, Marilyn (Dennis) Acheff and Joan Stalzer; grandchildren, Sara (George) Joseph, John Wilbur, Mary Beth Wilbur, Ricky Acheff, Kelly (Matt) Fray, Brian Acheff, Justin Stalzer, Scott Stalzer, Elizabeth Stalzer, Kevin Stalzer, Kenny Stalzer, Cecilia Stalzer, and grandson he was adopting as his son, Spencer Stalzer; great-grandchildren, Dylan Joseph, Lily Joseph, Karyss Acheff, Kenna Acheff, Kynlee Acheff, Liam Fray, Conor Fray, Arianna Stalzer; and his beloved dog, Skittles aka “Tootie”. He joins his daughter in heaven, Loretta Wilbur, who passed away last October. He was also preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Alma Stalzer, and brother, John E. Stalzer. |
