PLEWES (Rutherford), Gwendolyn “Gwen” M. – Of Grand Blanc, age 96, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2026 at her residence.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Visitation 5-8pm Tuesday and 11am Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Reverend Pete Scribner officiating.
Gwen was born in Grand Blanc, Michigan on April 2, 1930, the daughter of the late Clayton and Rhoda (Ormsbee) Rutherford. She is a 1948 graduate of Flint Central High School. On June 26, 1948, she married Richard “Dick” Plewes. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1976.
Gwen had 2 children, daughter, Deborah, and son, David “Scott.” She also was blessed with 2 grandchildren, Andrea and Matthew, and 2 great granddaughters, Nicole and Grace.
Gwen loved spending time with her family and going to garage sales. She also loved all animals, especially the many cats, dogs, and numerous other animals she gave a home to over the years.
Gwen is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Norma Gilbert, and brother, Clayton “Bud” Rutherford, Jr.
She leaves behind her daughter, Deborah, son, David (Tamey), granddaughter, Andrea (Kenneth), grandson, Matthew (Joanna), 2 great granddaughters, Nicole and Grace, sister, Onalee Rockwell, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Medical Team Hospice, especially Jolene, Keishia, and Peyonca, and the staff from Reformation Home Health.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
