HODGES, Marietta Virginia of Flint, age 98, passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Genesee Gardens. Cremation has taken place.
Inurnment to occur at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery with immediate family attending.
Funeral Mass will be held at a later date.
Marietta was born in Shepherd, Michigan on November 29, 1922 and had been a resident of Flint the past 90+ years. The daughter of Clarence Edward and Philomena Gertrude (Kleman) Higley, Marietta had served in the Navy during World War II as a Pharmacist’s Mate 3rd Class along with her younger sister Elizabeth.
She was a founding, charter member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Burton, Michigan; a former member of the Council of Catholic Women and previously sang in the church choir. Marietta married Christopher Hodges at Holy Redeemer on June 30, 1951.
Mrs. Hodges was employed in various office settings for over 40 years - beginning with, prior to her years of military service - a law office, followed by Michigan Bell, Chevrolet, AC Spark Plug and Gimbels (NYC). Post WWII, she added office work at Flint’s Tank Plant, Parts Division, Chevrolet and Buick to her resume; finally retiring from GM in August 1980 at the ripe old age of 57.
Marietta loved to travel and spend time with her family. In retirement, she also volunteered at Genesys Hospital.
Surviving are daughter, Denise Love-Williby; sons, Dennis (Kathleen) Hodges and David (Deborah) Hodges; grandchildren, Anthony, Amy, Dennis, Devin, Alissa, Ryan and Travis; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and special friends, Jean and Belle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher, her parents and 4 sisters, Alice, Doris, Elizabeth and Jacqueline.
