James A. Ruhala of Flint, age 93, died Wednesday June 22, 2022 at Regency of Grand Blanc. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon Thursday June 30, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 404 Dayton St. Davison. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski, Celebrant with private burial in Crestwood Cemetery. Family will receive visitors from 11:00 am Thursday until time of service at the church.
James was born in Flint Michigan on May 13, 1929 the son of the late; Michael and Mary (Sekora) Ruhala and had resided in the Flint area most of his life. He was joined in marriage to Joann A. Oberley on September 24, 1949 and she preceded him in death on July 9, 2021. Jim was a graduate of Clio High School Class of 1947, and continued his education at GMI, Mott College and received his Juris Doctorate Degree from Detroit College of Law. He had been a life member of Fraternal Order of Police, the Flint Elks Club, and Knight of Columbus Council 8245. James was a charter member of St. Pius Catholic Church, Flint and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Davison. He had been employed by Flint Police Department. He later entered private Law Practice with Draper, Daniel, Ruhala, & Seymore until his retirement. He was a recognized member of Genesee, Michigan, and American Bar Associations, and during his career he served the residents of Davison as their City Attorney from 1969-1997.
James is survived by children; Judy Ruhala, Deborah Witt and husband Robert, Diana LeBlanc and husband Paul. He also leaves his loving six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, his sister Maryann Boike and a host of extended family. He is preceded in death by brothers: Mickey Ruhala, Gerald Ruhala, and Fred Ruhala. Please share your condolences at www.hansenfuneralhome.net .
