Thrapp, Ernest F. - Of Flushing, age 91, died Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Hurley Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Rossell Funeral Home, 307 East Main Street, Flushing, with Pastor Paul Pfeuffer officiating. Family and friends will gather from 10:00am on Wednesday until the time of service. A private burial will take place at Flushing Cemetery at a later date.
Ernie was born on May 6, 1934, in Malvern, Iowa, the son of Ernest R. and Gladys (McGlade) Thrapp. Raised on a farm, Ernie learned the values of hard work, responsibility, and perseverance at an early age. After graduating high school, Ernie enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably from 1952 to 1956. While serving his country, he married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline Holmberg, on July 19, 1953. Shortly after, they started their young family. Following his military service, Ernie pursued his education, earning a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Iowa State University. Following this achievement, Ernie was hired by General Motors and began a long and successful career in Power Train Engineering with Buick Motor Division. Ernie became a respected leader in engineering, a role that took him to many places across the country.
Outside of work, he was an active member of Fleming Road Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and in Session. He later attended Flushing Presbyterian Church. Ernie had a passion for the outdoors and cherished time spent camping and canoeing. He was a talented woodworker and passionate photographer, especially fond of capturing his beloved grandsons playing sports. Above all, his family was at the heart of everything Ernie did. He will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for those closest to him.
Ernie is survived by his children, Gary and wife Pattie Jean Thrapp of San Diego, CA and Cindy and husband Tom Takai of Macomb, MI; and grandsons, Matt and Chris.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jacqueline Thrapp.
Donations in Ernie’s memory are suggested to the Michigan Humane Society. |
