Our Brightest Star, Carolyn Taylor, age 88, was born in Hopkins, South Carolina on December 19, 1933, the daughter of the late George and Maggie (Burns) Gunter. Her light dimmed on May 30, 2022 at home in the arms of her loving family. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 6, 2022 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 W. Hill Rd. Flint. Dr. Dennis Powell will be officiating with burial to follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Family hour begins at 11:00 am on Monday. Visitation for friends/public will be from 12:00 pm until the time of service.
She spent her life giving care to everyone and worked as an LPN at St. Joseph Hospital for over 25 years. The things that brought her joy in life included her deep love and faith in Jesus Christ, her relationship with F&AM Masons & Order of the Eastern Stars, of which she served as Grand Worthy Matron, Annie Thompson #212. She enjoyed being a part of the Flint Educational System, Red Hatters Society and Lady Gems Association. Sister Taylor was an avid traveler and loved spending time fishing, doing needlepoint, sewing, gardening, crocheting, visiting casinos and building a strong, loving family.
She leaves to cherish her memory sister; JoAnn Johnson, children; John (Maggie) Tyler Jr., Gail Morton, Cheryl Tyler, Cynthia (Edward) Braziel, Tracey Taylor, Deborah (Clayton) Brooks, Linda Richardson: 20 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren, 18 Great-Great Grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, George & Maggie Gunter, husband Velester Taylor, sons Phillip and Daniel Tyler, daughters Venita Johnson and Linda Tyler and a host of other relatives including special granddaughter Quintonya Tyler.
