BOWEN, Edward Raymond, age 79, of Burton, MI, passed into the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 8, 2022. He was born in Detroit in 1943. A graduate of Genesee High School (1961) and the University of Michigan—Flint, Edd married the love of his life, Patricia Scott, on June 6, 1965. Edd and Pat passionately served their Savior as members of Columbiaville Baptist Church and Faith Baptist Church, Davison. In 2001, he joined the Grounds and Maintenance staff of Faith Baptist Church and School. His greatest joy was to walk with Christ, share the gospel of Christ, and prayerfully anticipate the day he would be with Christ. Through the years he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, woodworking, and ice cream. He loved every minute he could spend with his dear wife, Pat, and their ever-growing family.
Edd is preceded in death by his parents Edward George and Dorothy Vivian Kennedy Bowen, wife of 53 years Patricia, and sister Lois Andrews. He is survived by his brothers Chris (Sharon) Bowen and Tom (Mary) Hicks, daughter, Lorie (Pastor Jim) Newcomer; daughter, Nancy (Pastor Mike) Knight; son, Pastor Edd (Jená) Bowen II; 10 grandchildren, Janelle (Leighton) Upton, Alicia (Andy) Smiley, Mikayla (Josh) Barsuhn, Ashlyn (Drew) Buffaloe, Jared (Anna) Newcomer, Eddie Bowen, Ethan Bowen, Hudson Knight, Evan Bowen, Ellie Bowen; 5 great-grandchildren, Bridger Barsuhn, Calvin Upton, Selah Smiley, Oakley Barsuhn, George Buffaloe; and numerous extended family and friends.
Prior to his full-time ministry at Faith, Edd was employed for 37 years at General Motors. Following his GM retirement, he and Pat served at Southland Christian Camp in Ringgold, Louisiana for 4 years.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11am Monday, September 12, 2022, at Faith Baptist Church, 7306 E. Atherton Rd., Davison, MI 48423, with Pastor Shawn Kook officiating. The viewing will be at the church on Sunday, September 11, from 4-8pm, and on Monday at 10am. Edward will be laid to rest next to his wife at Meadowview Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make memorial contributions designated “Edd Bowen Memorial” to Faith Baptist Church, 7306 E. Atherton Rd., Davison, MI 48423. All gifts received will fund gospel proclamation efforts through the church, both locally and internationally.
