James Gordon Forbes, 77, went to be with the Lord on April 24th, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. Jim was born in 1946 in Minneapolis to Bernice and Vincent Forbes. Both parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved daughter Julia Forbes of Burnsville, Minnesota, and his sister, Mary Dezarn of Winchester, Virginia. He also leaves to cherish his memory, Scott Rattet of Plymouth, Minnesota and his ex-wife, Jane Forbes of Flushing, Michigan. Jim grew up in Saint Louis Park and graduated from Macalester College. He was a National Merit Scholar. Jim was revered his entire life for his exceptional intelligence. In 1968, Jim was recruited by Swartz Creek Schools in Michigan where he taught for over 30 years. Jim was active in the Presbyterian Church. He led Bible study both in Flushing and Brighton, Michigan. His love of history and amazing memory made him a natural. Jim loved to travel. While in college, he lived and studied in France. Over the years, he spent many summers in Europe traveling the continent. In 2018, he realized a lifelong dream of visiting the Holy Land. Jim was a gifted athlete. As a child, he excelled in baseball. As an adult, tennis was his sport. He introduced his daughter to tennis while she was in elementary school and coached her team in high school. He took great pride in coaching high school athletics. Jim was a lover of classical music and theatre. He was a great supporter of the arts, both in Michigan and Minnesota; he attended many Beethoven and Shakespeare festivals. Those who knew Jim found him to be a bright, kind, easy-going soul who cared deeply for his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 8, 2023 at Kapala Glodek Malone Funeral Home in New Hope, MN at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10. |
