Robert Laverne Carter, age 101, of Grand Blanc, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Monday Feb. 19, 2024. Robert (Bob) was born in Flint, Michigan in 1922 to William and Melvina Carter of Illinois. He served in the 1259th Combat Engineers Division and was deployed to France near the end of WWII. When Bob returned to Flint, he attended University of Michigan, where he earned an engineering degree. He worked as an automotive engineer for AC Spark Plug and General Motors. In 1952, Bob married Frances A. Perono whom he met while purchasing a new car at Nash Motors. He is survived by their 3 children, Carole Anderson (Joe) of North Carolina, Craig Carter (Kathy) of Grand Blanc, and Christina Gilbert (Jim) of Ohio, his grandchildren, Tara, Seth, Katie, and Quinn and nieces, Paula, Marcia, Carla and Lisa.
Bob’s hobbies included golf, bowling, tennis, and running (he competed in a full marathon in his 60’s). He also enjoyed playing bridge up until the time of his death. He traveled extensively, camping with his young family, taking many trips with Frances, and after she passed away, he continued to travel independently even into his late 90’s. Bob had an amazing sense of direction, accomplishing all his travels the old-fashioned way—with maps. He truly enjoyed travel, and there was no location where he couldn’t find some interesting aspect to explore. He was also well known for being able to recall a joke or song for just about any occasion.
A visitation for Robert will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan 48439. A funeral service will occur Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM, 11723 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan 48439. An interment will occur at Evergreen Cemetery, 3415 Hill Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan 48439.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or the VFW. |
