James C. Hall

July 25, 1921 – May 11, 2021

James C. Hall passed away on May 11, 2021 at Bella Vita Assisted Living in Grand Blanc, Michigan. James was born in Flint, Michigan and his family moved to Arkansas when he was 5 years old returning several years later back to the Flint area. He graduated from Flint Central High School in 1939 and worked for ADT in the Michigan and Indiana areas. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served on several destroyers in the Atlantic and Pacific war theaters. After discharge in 1946, he returned to work at ADT and changed jobs in the late 1940’s and worked for General Motors. He started work at Chevrolet and later transferred to AC Spark Plug where he worked as a skilled trades electrician until he retired in 1982.

James met Bonnie Lou Tuttle in 1948 at a picnic. They married in 1949 and remained married until her death in 2016 after 67 years. He lived with his family in Flint until 1968 when he moved his family to the Swartz Creek area where he remained until 2017.

James was well-known in Michigan as a car fan having been a member of many automobile clubs over the years. He frequently attended many car related events including many local car shows, SCCA sports car races and local rallies and drives. He loved talking about cars, working on cars and driving cars. He shared many stories of cars that he owned, those that he had seen and those owned by others. He shared his passion with any who had interest. He taught many how to maintain, repair and use their cars to the fullest. Many remember his teachings and discussions, but most of all his passion for cars.

He was also a voracious reader who was continually learning. He loved discussing the latest news, political events and unique and interesting things he had learned or discovered. He often recommended books to others that he found interesting.

He is survived by his daughters, Ellen Greve and Martha Hall, and his son Wally and his wife, Kathi Hall and two granddaughters Sarah Hall and Laura Hall. He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, and son Jason.
