Funeral service will be held 11am Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Family Hour is from 10-11am Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the funeral home.
Ms. Peggy Ann Blackwell was one of three children born to Verna and Joseph Burks. She was a resident of Flint and a member of Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME).
Peggy was an employee of AC Spark Plug, a division of General Motors, for 10 years. She later decided to attend Mott Community College where she studied nursing. She graduated with honors. She later took a position at Hurley Medical Center where she worked as an assisted head nurse in Adult Psychology and later retired in 2007. During her retirement she spent much of her time working at the Church.
Peggy was a faithful member of Quinn Chapel AME Church for many years. She served as a member of the Steward Board, Stewardship and Finance committee, Turner Missionary Society, Re-engagement Committee, and a Class Leader. Peggy was a loyal and committed member and did all she could to encourage others until her health began to fail.
Ms. Peggy Blackwell leaves to cherish her memory three children: Darin Campbell, Greg and Lisa Blackwell, Six grandchildren; Janay, Jasmine, Justin, Jackie, Jessica and Jordan Blackwell; great grandchildren; Julius, Sydney, Jayden, and Skylar; Sister; Dr. Beverly Jones; nieces; Jennifer Mallory and Tracy Johnson, great niece; Skyye Johnson.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Verna and Joseph Burks, sister Nancy Lee Burks. Special thanks to Hurley Medical Center 5th floor ICU and Genesys/Hurley Cancer Institute.
