Jack was born in Montrose, Michigan on May 29, 1948, the son of the late Jack J. and Gloria (Wheeler) Powell. He was raised on their family’s farm and attended Montrose Hill McCloy High School graduating in 1967. Days after graduating, he was employed at Fisher Body Flint for a short time before being drafted into the Army in May of 1968. Jack served his country with pride for nearly 2 years overseas during the Vietnam War. He returned home in December of 1969 where he continued his career at General Motors. After returning home from the service, he met his beautiful wife to be, Charlene Maricle, in the spring of 1970. They married on July 15, 1972 and together they built a wonderful life based on love, trust, and a strong faith in God. They had three wonderful children and five amazing granddaughters who he loved and adored. In 1999 after working 32 years, Jack retired from GM. After retirement he would often drive truck for the Powell family gravel business. Jack was a faithful and devoted husband and father. He was both hard-working and committed to his family’s activities both in school and the church. Jack had an unwavering commitment to the Lord and lived as an example of faith to his family and friends. He was a member of Trinity Assembly of God for many years serving in multiple capacities and especially loved being involved in Christmas productions and Passion Plays. Jack was involved in several organizations such as Flint Area Right to Life, the VFW, the American Legion, including Honor Guard services, and the Genesee County Republican Party where he served as a delegate. He also had several hobbies which included involvement with the Double Duce Cruisers Car Club, Shiawassee Mopar Club, Shiawassee Harley Davidson as a lifetime member of H.O.G, and the Christian Motorcycle Association. Jack loved spending time with his friends and family whether he was on an all-day Harley ride or hanging out at a car show. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of almost fifty-four years, Charlene Powell; son, David (Jeannie) Powell; daughter, Kimberly (Charles III) Smith; son, Adam Powell (Kristen Cole); granddaughters, Emily Mills, Raina Powell, Emberlin Powell, Isabella Mills, and Ellory Smith; sister, Yvonne (Melvin) Durham; brother, Glenn Powell; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
