WATKINS, Martha Rose - Of Flint, age 80, died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at her residence.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 11110 North Saginaw Street, Mt. Morris, Father David Harvey officiating.
Burial at 11 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to McLaren Hospice, 1515 Cal Drive Davison, MI 48423.
Visitation 1-8 p.m. Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West hill Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Watkins will be at the church from 12:30p.m. Saturday until the time of the Mass.
Martha Rose Watkins was born on April 13, 1933 in Flint, Michigan to Peter and Mary (Bisha) Skander.
Martha graduated from Sacred Heart High School Class of 1951. It’s there that she met her husband, Roger Watkins, and they were married September 11, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She attended Sacred Heart Church and St. Mary's Church in Mt. Morris, all her life.
She enjoyed playing the piano, Stardust and Strangers in the Night were two of her favorite pieces.
Her grandchildren were very important in her life and she enjoyed planting flowers around her home.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Surviving her are daughters, Catherine and Karen;
son, Robert and wife Sandy;
granddaughter, Jennifer and husband John Pemberton and Holly;
grandsons, Brian and wife Kari and Troy;
great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Ashlyn and Ethan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Watkins, in May of 1999.
