BOWLES, Evelyn Marie age 86 of Higgins Lake, and Largo, FL, formerly of Flint, died peacefully after a long illness on January 1, 2025. In accordance with Evelyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Private Celebration of Life and burial of cremated remains will take place in the Summer. Memorial donations may be directed to Heart-to-Heart Hospice, 4438 Oak Bridge Drive Flint, MI 48532.

Evelyn was born July 17, 1938, in Flint, the daughter of Mike and Irma Dennis. Raised in Flint, Evelyn attended a country school before transferring to Flint Community Schools, graduating from Flint Central High School with the Class of 1956. After graduation, Evelyn continued her education at Flint Junior College, graduating with a Degree in Office Management. While in the Marching Band at Flint Central, Evelyn would meet Michael Bowles, the two dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on April 12, 1958, sharing 64 years of marriage. Michael preceded her in death on May 17, 2022.

Evelyn worked as an administrative assistant for the Flint Community Schools at Northern High School and the Flint Board of Education. Michael’s career moved them to Cincinnati, and Indianapolis, before they settled in Grand Rapids. Evelyn then went to work at Davenport College, retiring with over 10 years of service. After retirement, Evelyn and Michael were blessed with 26 years at Fairway Village in Largo, FL and their home at Higgins Lake, enjoying their family and many friends. In her free time Evelyn enjoyed playing cards and games, baking, cooking, dancing, music, concerts, going to the symphony, and golfing. In 1972, Evelyn and Michael built their cottage at Higgins Lake, where they enjoyed both summer and winter outdoor activities and shared their home and hospitality with their family and friends. She and Michael led a very active life of retirement in the Fairway Village Community and surrounded themselves with many wonderful friends. Evelyn was a faith filed woman, volunteering in many ways at her churches over the years.

Evelyn leaves two sons: Michael and wife Grace Bowles and Dennis and wife, Christina Bowles; three grandchildren: Joshua and wife, Lacey Bowles, Cathrina and husband, Logan Beam, and Victoria and husband, Ben Schmachtenberger, four great-grandchildren: Kody and Chloe Bowles and Remy and Elan Beam, sisters in law: Diane and husband, Bill Wall, Sheila Sakuta, and Sandra Fick; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael, parents, Mike and Irma Dennis, father and mother-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Bowles, and brothers-in-law, Wayne Sakuta and Tom Fick. The family would like to thank the Staffs of Provisions Living at Fenton and Heart to Heart Hospice for the love and care shown to Evelyn and our family.
