COOK, JOYANNE M.– Of Burton, age 83, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Ascension Genesys Hospital.
A Funeral Service will be held at 4:00pm on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Steve Wood officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00pm on Tuesday until the time of service.
Joyanne was born in Flint, Michigan at Hurley Medical Center on April 5, 1940, the daughter of Arthur and Mable (Lowe) West. On July 12, 1957 she married Wakefield Cook and they celebrated 42 years together until his passing in 1999. Joyanne was a faithful member of Eastgate Baptist Church in Burton. She enjoyed crocheting, particularly making baby dresses for many people. She also loved spending time putting puzzles together.
Surviving are 3 children, Cindy (James) Lutz of Prescott,
Tami (Patrick) Baker of Grand Blanc and
Wakefield Guy Cook of Burton;
daughter-in-law, Lourie Cook of Burton;
granddaughters, Staci (Brian) Fields, Theresa Lutz, Alicia Lutz, Shelby Cook, Mackenzie Baker and Malissa Cook;
grandsons, Matthew Baker and Christepher (Amanda) Baker;
great-granddaughters, Kaylinn Baker and Eveliegh Baker;
great-grandsons, Jay Allen, Elijah Souranders, Ethan Fields, Asher Baker, Brady Baker, Coby Baker and Colton Baker;
great-great-granddaughter, Emiliah Allen;
brothers, Ronald (June) Walker of Mantano, IL, Donald (Barbara) Walker of Springfield, IL;
3 brothers-in-law, Calvin of Flint, Jack and wife Juanita of Nevada, Bill and wife Mary of Oklahoma;
2 sisters-in-law, Minnie and husband Alvie Abernathy of Flint, Anne Bell of Texas;
many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wakefield; son, Steven Cook, in 2012; grandchild, Alexander Cook; 6 sisters and 3 brothers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Humane Society of Genesee County.
