VANWAGONER, Dorothy — A longtime resident of Flint and formerly of Arkansas, Dorothy passed peacefully into Heaven at the age of 90 on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Maple Woods Manor. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. A private burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
Dorothy was born on New Year’s Eve, 1934, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Alexander and Stella (Dixon) Dean. She married her beloved husband, Lester VanWagoner, on August 29, 1953. Together, they shared 42 years of marriage and created a beautiful life. Dorothy was a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother for much of her life. Raising her three children, Janet, Dennis, and Sandy, was one of her greatest blessings. She knew and loved the Lord deeply, attending church services at Maple Woods Manor through the Genesee Road Church of God during her time there. She enjoyed shopping, especially hunting for good deals at local dollar stores, catching up on her favorite TV shows, listening to music, looking at photos of family, and caring for her beloved dogs. Dorothy was known for her kind, loving, and patient spirit. Above all else, she loved her family dearly. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank-you to all the staff at Maple Woods Manor for their compassionate care during her stay at the facility.
Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her children: Janet (Ken) Jackson, Dennis (Laurie) VanWagoner, and Sandra (John) LaMar; her grandchildren: Timothy (Shannon) Jackson, Danielle (Tiffany) Miller, Brandy (Danny) Fisher, James King, and Michael (Lindsey) LaMar; and 13 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lester E. VanWagoner; her grandson, Zachary King; three brothers; and two sisters. |
