Maeder, Glen Walter - of Birch Run, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the age of 87.
Glen was born to the late Walter and Helen (Renner) of Birch Run, Michigan. He proudly served his country during the Korean War for the United States Marine Corp. Upon being honorably discharged, Glen met the love of his life, Mary Ellen (LaFlair) in Saginaw. They were married on December 9, 1961.
Before leaving to serve in the Marine Corp, Glen worked on the family farm in Birch Run. When he returned from the Marine Corp, he started working at General Motors. Glen also worked for Universal as a Tool Maker. He worked to build his own tool and dye business, and worked to build I-75 through Birch Run. Upon retiring, Glen enjoyed grooming beaches for customers allowing him to spend time on his beloved John Deere Tractor.
Glen was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather (Pops), Uncle, and Friend. When it came to those he loved, there was not anything he would not do for them. He loved spending time at his hunting camp, preparing for the fall hunting season. During the summer months, Glen enjoyed working on his beloved garden, which included a beautiful strawberry patch and fishing for Walleye in the Saginaw Bay. Glen found great joy in helping others, when he was not tending to his garden or out on his boat, he was helping others groom beaches and volunteering at church.
Glen is survived by: his wife, Mary; his three children: Laura (Will) Schultz of Birch Run, Anne (Gary) Hazen of AuGres, Mark (Gail) Maeder of Marquette. Three grandchildren, Tasha (Steve) Britton, Aaron (Jordan) Hazen, and Kevin (Courtney) Hazen. Many nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceded in death were Glen’s siblings, Lorine Salay and Jack Maeder.
