Lena May Colthorp, age 85, a lifetime resident of Davison, Michigan went home to glory on February 13, 2024. Her funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, February 19, 2024, at her home church, the Davison Free Methodist Church 502 Church Street, Davison. Pastor John Vannest will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10 am to noon at the church with a service and luncheon following and committal at Pine Grove Cemetery at 3:00. Those desiring may make contributions in Lena’s memory to the Davison Free Methodist Church or the Gideon’s International.
Lena was born in Davison, Michigan on July 15, 1938, the daughter of the late Floyd and Eva (Heal) Britting. Lena worked on the family farm and after graduation she continued her education at Central Michigan University receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She was joined in marriage to Russell A. Colthorp on August 4, 1962, and he preceded her in death on April 25, 2020. Lena dedicated her life to raising six children, teaching children at school or church, and serving her community. She was known for her gracious hospitality, giving, service, and acts of kindness to all. She loved to cook, decorate cakes, make pottery, tend to her flower gardens, read devotionals, teach Bible, and host gatherings. Family meant everything to her.
Surviving are her children Ruth (Steven) Nichols, Audrey (Robert) Johnston, Christine (Daryl) Twist, Daniel (Kristina) Colthorp, Kathy (Joseph) Halabicky, and Julie (Kevin) Kelly. She also leaves behind her 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild, along with her siblings: Edsel (Roberta) Britting, Reva Ruff, Norine (Louie) Schwerin, and Harold (Ruth) Britting, and a host of extended family and friends. Lena is preceded in death by her husband Russell, her two grandchildren Bethany Halabicky and Jorianna Nichols, and her brother-in-law Jess Ruff.
