DAVIS, Don Phillip, Sr. – Age 81, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2021
at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend Jeffrey Glover officiating.
Visitation 1p.m. – 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Don was born in Holcomb, Missouri on August 21, 1940, to father, Hal and mother, Virginia (Mayberry) Davis.
He moved to Flint at the age of 12 and graduated from Kearsley High School in 1958.
Don served in the U.S. Navy for 3 years after graduation.
He then went on to follow in his father’s footsteps and became a millwright. He worked for Fabricating Engineers, and he was a member of Millwright Local 1102 for 50 years.
On April 25, 1964 he married the love of his life, Darlene (Griffith), who passed in 2016. They were married for 52 1/2 years.
Don leaves behind four children, Pam (Jim) Damberg, Lisa (Jim) Kirby, Eric (Tessie) Davis and Kerri Traynor;
15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;
brother, Dick (Pat) Davis;
best friends, Bob (Barb) Beall and Lee (Kathy) Mattson; along with his “four-legged girl”, Reba, as well as many other beloved friends and family.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Helen and son, Don, Jr., as well as his bride, Darlene.
He was a hero and loved by everyone who knew him.
