Opal was born on February 6, 1951, in Aberdeen, Mississippi the daughter of Stanley and Juanita Marie McCullar. The third child in a family of six, her family moved from Mississippi to Flint, Michigan, when she was young. She was a 1969 graduate of Grand Blanc High School. Opal began attending Bethany Baptist Church in Grand Blanc while in high school. She met her husband Dave while attending the church, and they were married on July 30th, 1971. They fostered several children over the years and desired to have a child of their own. In 1981, they adopted their son Doug. Opal enjoyed helping the congregation at Bethany Baptist wherever she was needed and served in practically every capacity. She especially loved working with the Ladies Missionary Guild at Bethany. She liked making crafts and other projects to send to missionaries all over the world. Opal was also very active in the hospitality area of the church. Almost every Sunday morning, she would get to church early to help make coffee and get snacks ready for people as they arrived at church. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, crafts, taking walks, swimming, and going to dinner with family and friends. She especially loved spending time with her granddaughters Eliot and Finley. She could often be seen playing soccer in her hallway with them, coloring with them, reading to them, putting puzzles together, and racing their cars all over her floors. Opal loved helping people and would never hesitate to inconvenience herself to go the extra mile for someone else. Opal was a true servant of Christ and loved to show it by helping others. Opal was preceded in death by parents, her husband Dave (2003) and her brother Lonnie (2021). Opal is survived by her son Doug (Jessica) Anderson; Grandchildren Eliot and Finley; Siblings, Nita Sage of Grand Blanc, Stanley McCullar, Jr. of Texas, George McCullar of Texas, and Steve (Linda) McCullar of South Carolina, as well as several nieces and nephews.
