Dr. Frederick Peter Daprai
August 8, 1937 - April 2, 2022

Daprai, Dr. Frederick Peter - of Grand Blanc, MI, age 84, passed away Friday, April 2, 2022 at his home. He lived an active and independent life until his passing. He is preceded in death by his parents Serafino and Pierina (Gianotti) Daprai of Detroit, 2 infant brothers, and his son Fr. Damien (Tony) Daprai OSB. He is survived by his sister Rita (Dr. Leon Isagholian), his children Theresa (Scott Bills), Maria (Dave Hobson), Paul (Carol), grandchildren Stefi Daprai (Chris Converse), Nick, Avery, Joey, Vinny, Gianna, great-grandchildren Carmella, Deacon, Greyson, former wife Mary Andrews, special friend Linda Barber, and many cousins in Bresimo Baselga, Italy.

A 53 year resident of Grand Blanc, Fred was born in Iron Mountain, MI and grew up in southwest Detroit where he attended All Saints Catholic High School. He graduated from the University of Detroit School of Dentistry and joined the United States Air Force as a commissioned officer with the rank of captain. He served his country for 4 years in Athens, Greece and Columbus, Ohio. After the Air Force, Fred accepted a fellowship from the Mott Children’s Health Center in Flint, MI to attend the University of Michigan School of Dentistry for a pediatric specialty. He spent the next 28 years with the Mott Health Center serving the Flint community.

A member of the Knights of Columbus, he was a devout Roman Catholic. He was dedicated to a daily hour of prayer. He enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life, especially woodworking, racquetball, golf, square dancing, bridge, and poker. He was always ready for a board game and loved to attend every activity his grandkids were involved with: soccer, hockey, baseball, tennis, bowling, dance, and theater. He rarely missed an event and was their biggest fan. Fred loved crossword puzzles and all manner of brain teasers. Although he spoke fluent Italian prior to attending grade school, the culture of the day promoted English as the common language. He spent the last 25 years relearning his native Italian tongue. He could often be found in McDonald’s with his study materials enjoying a bottomless senior coffee. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He was a good man who loved the Lord, his family, and his friends. He will be remembered well and missed dearly.
