Fran Hicks passed away on January 25, 2024 after battling Alzheimer’s with everything she had. Frances Loretta Hicks was born on April 11, 1940 in Pineola, North Carolina to Father Russell Thompson and Mother Bonita (Smith) Thompson. Fran was a ball of energy throughout her life and until the very end. Growing up she protected her younger siblings, which often led to others watching bully’s run away. She married Robert Hicks on February 4, 1961 and together raised four children.
As a wife she always made sure great food was on the table and attempted to throw out dad’s leisure suits on several occasions. As a mom she was the best there has ever been, showing her love by attending events for whatever we got into, standing up for her kids (even if it embarrassed us) and most of all by holding us, hugging us and kissing us goodbye, although she never wanted us to go. As a grandmother she showered her 4 grandchildren with love and they always knew how proud she was of them.
She was a friend to many and treasured them more than money. She met her best friend Judy Thompson at bowling nearly 50 years ago. Her other great friend was Carol Curtis who she met working at the Secretary of State. The family is so appreciative of these 2 awesome friends for all the time they spent with mom during this terrible ordeal. Fran is survived by her husband of 62 years Bob Hicks, daughter Lora Hicks-Thorsby, son Rod Hicks and son Stacey (Dennis) Hicks; grandchildren: Malary Thorsby, McKenzie, Mason & Maxwell Hicks; brother: Joe Thompson; sisters: Shirley Winkles, Louise (Dean) Tolley and Beth Hutchens, nephews: Dick Winkles, Greg Tolley and Sterling Hicks, nieces: Gretta Tolley, Jillian Mors, and Leah Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, oldest child Scott
Hicks, son-in-law Brad Thorsby, brother: Russ Thompson niece Cindy Payton, brother-in-law
Art Winkles, as well as many family members and special friends. The family wants to recognize and thank Dennis Chang for all the love and caring he showed mom during her time in San Diego. Many thanks to Sadie and the team at Angel Manor in Clio, as well as Heart to Heart hospice and her awesome nurse Chelsea. Please share your condolences at www.HansenFuneralHome.net
