Memorial contributions may be made to the family and will be used to support future cancer research and care at the hospital where Maddie received treatment.
Madalyn was born on April 17, 2009, in Flint, Michigan, to Nichole and Michael. She was currently a senior at Flushing High School, where she had previously been a member of the volleyball team. She also played travel volleyball, making countless memories on the road with her mom, who was always right by her side as the devoted "team mom." Maddie had a curious mind and a fascination with history, especially the events of 9/11 and ancient Egypt. She loved learning everything she could and was never afraid to ask questions. In fact, a conversation with Maddie could quickly turn into a series of "what ifs," almost always followed by another "why?" She loved Harry Potter, the Avengers, and anything involving the paranormal. She was also a fan of Dancing with the Stars and enjoyed watching "The Basement Yard" podcast with her brother, Logan. Maddie had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her cats, and dreamed of one day becoming a veterinarian. She enjoyed diamond painting and had quite the talent for building Legos, proudly completing an impressive collection of 54 sets totaling more than 46,000 pieces. She also had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and was especially excited when she received a lifetime pass to the National Parks, opening the door to countless adventures she looked forward to experiencing. Some of Maddie's happiest memories were made with family and their Fourth of July trips up north, spending time on the lake and sharing many late-night conversations. Thanksgiving and Christmas were just as special to her, filled with good food, laughter, and the simple joy of being together. To know Maddie was to love her, and anyone who knew her knew she was truly one of a kind. Beneath her big heart was a whole lot of personality. She was sassy, sarcastic, a little salty, wonderfully quirky, opinionated, and strong-willed. She had perfected the art of the side-eye and could deliver an impressive RBF without saying a single word. Maddie was unapologetically herself, and those who loved her wouldn't have had her any other way. Behind all that sass was a girl with an enormous heart who cared deeply for those who meant the most to her. She had a way of making life a little more interesting, a lot more entertaining, and so much more meaningful. Though her time here was far too short, Maddie filled the lives of those around her with unforgettable memories, laughter, and a kind of love that will never fade. She will be forever cherished, deeply missed, and lovingly remembered for everything that made her so uniquely Maddie.

Maddie's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the incredible doctors, nurses, technicians, and support staff at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion shown throughout her journey. They are especially thankful for the wonderful friendships made with the families on Floor 7E and the special bonds formed with nurses Tracie, Laura, Robert, and her bestie, Hannah, whom Maddie loved like a sister. Their kindness and love will never be forgotten.
The family also extends a special thank you to Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson and his family, who visited Maddie during her time at the hospital. Maddie became a hero in the "House of Hutch," and Aidan later paid tribute to her by carrying a water jug with the words "Fight it out, Maddie" as he entered the Lions' game against the Washington Commanders. It was a heartfelt gesture that meant the world to Maddie and her family.
Most of all, the family wants the world to know that Maddie did not lose her battle with cancer. "Gerald," the name she gave her tumor, did not win. Maddie was a warrior in every sense of the word, facing unimaginable challenges with remarkable courage and strength. She was a trailblazer whose fight was about more than her own journey. Through her bravery and willingness to fight, she helped pave the way for advancements in cancer research, offering hope to others who will face the same battle. Though her time here was far too short, her courage, impact, and the hope she leaves behind will live on. Gerald did not win. Maddie's legacy is so much greater than cancer.
