Rodney Owen Dorff, of Hubbard Lake, Michigan, formerly of Flushing, died unexpectedly at home on October 19, 2021. Funeral service will be 12 noon Monday, October 25, 2021 at Rossell Funeral Home. Cremation to follow and a private burial will be at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Michigan Chapter or the American Diabetes Association.
Rod was born in Flint, Michigan on May 21, 1959 to Owen and Bonnie (Reifsnyder) Dorff. He was a Flushing High School graduate, class of 1977. In high school he was an outstanding athlete excelling and setting many records in football, track & field, and wrestling. After high school Rodney became a police officer and served for Grand Blanc and Flint Township. He was a proud volunteer firefighter for Flushing for 14 years and was on the fire crew at Michigan International Speedway for NASCAR races for 20 years. In his free time his hobbies included sailing in Ludington during the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. He married the love of his life, Mary, in Myrtle Beach on May 16, 2006. Rod retired from General Motors after 32 years from the Grand Blanc Weld Tool Center. Rod’s passion, though, was his cars and motorcycles. He loved his Harley Davidson but loved being a grandpa most of all.
Rodney is survived by his wife of 15 years, Mary Dorff; step-children, Joshua Fenner and Mara (Dan) Shevnock; grandchildren, Gracelyn, Annabelle, Aidan, and Eli; siblings, Judie (Mike) Miljan, Sheri Aguilar, and Kevin Dorff; three nephews; step-mother, Dee Dorf; two nieces; two great-nephews; one great niece; and his best friend and dog, Louie. He was preceded in death by his parents. |
