Valarie Ann Hathaway (Killian), age 55, passed away on December 9, 2025, at her home in Flushing, Michigan. Born on July 6, 1970, in Flint, Michigan, Valarie lived a life marked by dedication to both her family and her profession.
She pursued her education with determination, earning an Associate of Applied Science degree followed by a Bachelor of Health Services Administration. Valarie further advanced her professional credentials by obtaining her Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification and was a proud member of the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
Valarie devoted 19 years of service to HealthPlus/HAP, where she found deep fulfillment in her work. Her commitment and passion for her profession were evident in all she did.
Family was central to Valarie’s life. She is survived by her husband, Rodney Hathaway; her children: Joshua Baker and his wife Stephanie Fischer, Allysha and her husband Taylor Benjamin, and Lanie Hathaway. She also leaves behind her brothers, Dan Killian and his partner Shannon Jose, and Adam Killian. Her extended family includes numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Valarie also cherished a dear honorary granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Killian II and Marcia Killian.
Valarie expressed her creativity through crafting and decorating her home with warmth. A lifelong Disney enthusiast, she found joy in planning trips to the parks she loved. One of her proudest accomplishments was visiting both Disneyland parks in California and all four parks in Florida within six months alongside her adult children. Her affection for animals reflected the gentle kindness that touched every part of her life.
Those who knew Valarie will remember not only her achievements but also the love she shared so generously. May her memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate to know her.
