On December 5, 2024, Louise Anne Bissell (Heinzman), 81, of Vassar, MI passed away. Louise was born in March of 1943, in Detroit, MI to Harry and Dorian Heinzman of Utica, MI. Louise graduated from Utica High School and went on to study at Central Michigan University where she received a bachelor’s degree in education. Louise began her career at Bentley High School where she met her future husband, Douglas Bissell. Louise moved on to Garber High School in Essexville, MI where she taught physical education. Additionally, she started and coached the Frankenmuth High School girls’ basketball team in 1973 through the 1974 season. Louise was a member of the Frankenmuth and Caseville United Methodist churches and enjoyed many years of friendship with various members or both churches.
After marring in 1968, Doug and Louise relocated to Vassar, MI where they began their family having three children. In her spare time, she was an avid reader and enjoyed the beach and kayaking, favorite past times at their summer home in Caseville, MI. She taught countless people to swim throughout her lifeguard years and at the beach. She could be heard (loudly) cheering her three children and teammates at cross country and track meets throughout the years. After retiring she became an avid Arizona State Girls Basketball team fan attending many games while wintering in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Louise is survived by her husband Douglas Bissell; her three children: Heather Bissell, Raymund Bissell and Ryan Bissell (Jim Lee); her brother, Frank Heinzman (Bonnie German); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Louise will be cremated and there will be no public services. Her cremated remains will be scattered at her favorite spot at the lake. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester Hills, MI.
