Beloved father, grandfather and fiancé passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland at the age of 74. The son of the late Lawrence and Eunice (Gessler) Short, David was born on February 2, 1948 in Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1966. David served in the United States Army, and after being honorably discharged, he worked for General Motors until his retirement. David enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an avid gardener. He had a passion for spicy foods, experimenting with hot, exotic pepper seeds and belonged to various online pepper groups. David loved making wine, dancing and learning the German language.
Surviving is his fiancé Linda Erickson, Midland, MI and two daughters and one son, Dana (Nathan) Fleming, Laingsburg, MI; Melissa (Matthew) Angers, Lansing, MI and Steven (Erin) Short, Lake Oswego, OR; step-son Ian (Kate) Erickson, Fort Collins, CO. He had eight grandchildren, Peyton, Bailey, Ethan, Elizabeth, Isabella, Sophia, Maxwell and Wren; his siblings, Sharon Kinne, Jacquelyn White and Shelly Yancer; many nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Short.
Honoring the wishes of the family, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of David’s life will take place on Monday, April 25, 2022 from 11-3pm at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider contributions to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN.org) in memory of David.
