SHAY, DAVID JACK – Age 62, of Zephyrhills, FL, passed away due to an aortic aneurysm on June 8, while in Spokane, WA, visiting family.
David graduated from Atherton High School in Burton, MI, in 1976 and worked for 30 years for General Motors in Flint, MI, Lake Orion, MI, Spring Hill, TN, Lansing, MI and Fairfax, KS. In 1995, David graduated from Mott Community College in Flint with his Associate’s Degree in Marketing, a degree he pursued while also running a photography business in addition to his GM employment.
He was a passionate servant, serving as an usher in churches in each place he lived, while also serving in a custodial capacity for more than two years in Zephyrhills. He also loved being outdoors and camping, sports of many kinds, photography, and he was an avid rail fan. More than anything, though, David loved spending time with his family, and he loved to laugh.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Kay (Barnard) Shay;
his two children, Timothy David (Kaylynn)Shay of Spokane Valley, WA and Benjamin James (Deanna)Shay of Yukon, OK;
his sister, Kathleen Shay of Fenton, MI; his uncle, Larry (Dorothy) Segroves of Ludington, MI;
three grandchildren, Allen, Cameron and Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Arthur and Shirley Lynne (Segroves) Shay.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Flint Central Church of the Nazarene, 1261 West Bristol Road, Flint, MI, with visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
Graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Kurtz Church of the Nazarene, 5858 North Cleveland Street, Norman, IN.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on November 20, 2021 at Zephyrhills First Church of the Nazarene.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to Zephyrhills First Church of the Nazarene in Zephyrhills, FL, 6151 12th Street, Zephyrhills, FL 33542.
