GARRETT, Joanne - Of Flint, age 85, died Monday, May 8, 2023 at Western Hills Living in Flint Township.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1pm Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, MI.

Entombment at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Visitation 4-8pm Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Vigil Service will be held 7pm Monday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Garrett will be at the church from 12pm Tuesday until the time of the Mass.
Joanne was born in Ubly, Michigan on August 13, 1937 the daughter of the late Henry and Regina Schmitt and was a resident of Flint all of her adult life. On October 24, 1959 she married Bruce Garrett and he preceded her in death on June 13, 2013. Joanne was an Adorer in the Adoration Chapel for 35 years at Holy Redeemer. She was a wonderful stay at home mom who raised her five daughters. Joanne enjoyed playing cards, sewed her children’s clothes and was an amazing cook. She was a wonderful wife and adored her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are five daughters, Cheryl (Doug) Collins, Linda (Paul) Sussi, Janel (Rodney) Briggs, Elaine (Rob) VanderMey and Karen (Todd) Barnes;
five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter;
and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by sisters, Ethel Hodge and Doris Mausolf and brothers, Ernie, Fred and Jim Schmitt.
The family would like to thank the staff at Western Hills Living for the care they provided to her.
