TOBIAS, James Douglas – of Lapeer, MI, age 88, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023. A Funeral Service will be held 1 PM Monday, October 30, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Chaplain Rex Ray Dela Peret officiating. Interment immediately following the service in Smith Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 12-1 PM Monday, October 30, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the National MS Society, in Jim’s memory.
Jim was born in Flint, MI on January 19, 1935, son of the late Wallace and Bessie (Crow) Tobias. He attended Beecher High School. Jim proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves during the Korean Conflict. He had a remarkable career, devoting 30 years of his life to General Motors before his well-deserved retirement. Outside of his professional life, Jim was a passionate enthusiast of classic cars. He was the proud owner of a meticulously maintained 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle, which he lovingly maintained and showcased with pride. Another one of Jim's great passions was collecting antique John Deere tractors. He took great pleasure in restoring and preserving these pieces of agricultural history, ensuring their legacy for future generations. Jim will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him. May he rest in peace.
Jim is survived by 5 children, Duane Tobias, Terry Tobias, Pamela (James Plutter) Singles, Cynthia Smothers and Carole Dunning; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; loving companion, Sherry Almassy, who has been his love and support for 25 years; many other loving family members and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Bessie Tobias and his son, Kevin Tobias.
